In praise of Tim Burton

I like the way Tim Burton's films are so stylized and his vision is for me so perfectly quirky. I like the way he always uses Danny Elfman to write his music and I like the way Elfman always uses mellow low sounds like the bassoon, bass clarinet and the really funky alto flute. I love the way he uses old style animation made in Manchester and I love his constant collaborations with the wonderful Jonny Depp.

I understand his position I think - I feel shallow liking Tim Burton and I don't like it all, but there are a few things that absolutely could have been plucked right out of one of my dreams and I find that quite amazing. I don't think he ever has anything interesting to say in his films but I do like his acceptably safe and fairly innanely grotesque little creatures. Now I feel defensive...

I think Tim Burton should ask us, collectively, for story material. We could handle that part. Sound good? Who's up for it. I bet he wouldn't mind a few suggestions.
